 Scholar Support Specialist (0.5 School Counselor at EA & 0.5 Career Specialist at JA = 1.0 FTE)

Scholar Support Specialist Grades K-3 (focused on SEL, 51% Character/49% Academics - Itinerant PA/EA)
 

LSC seeks two Scholar Support Specialists to support K-12 student development in academic, social-emotional, and college/career domains while also being the chief leader of career navigation experiences for our scholars across all three campuses

Key duties include
individual/small-group counseling, classroom guidance, parent consultation, and collaborating with staff. One position will be based fully at the Sumter Mall Campus while the other will provide counseling support at the PA & EA campuses.

EA/JA Position: Requires a Master’s degree and valid SC certification in school counseling will guide
middle school students by promoting quality career development, assessing skills, and connecting them with community resources. Key duties include managing computer-assisted guidance systems, assisting with career interest inventories, and developing parent/student resources. A valid Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) certificate is required. 

Role Responsibilities in School Counseling: 

  • Student Support for 4th-6th Grade Counseling Support: Provides individual, small-group, and classroom guidance to improve interpersonal skills, self-confidence, and academic performance.
  • Academic & Personal Development: Guides students in decision-making, evaluates aptitudes for educational planning, and helps with personal/social issues.
  • Collaboration & Consultation: Consults with parents, teachers, and outside agencies to support student needs, including special meetings.
  • Program Management: Participates in staff meetings, professional development, and implements data-driven, developmental counseling programs.
  • Assessment: Assists students in analyzing learning styles and improving study skills.

Role Responsibilities in Career Navigation: 

  • Student Support: Assists counselors and students in identifying career information and technology education programs.
  • Career Assessment: Administers and evaluates career interest inventories to help students plan for their future.
  • Program Development: Plans and develops materials on career development for parents, students, and teachers.
  • Community Engagement: Coordinates community resources representing various occupations to enhance student career development.
  • Technology & Admin: Utilizes computer-assisted guidance systems and maintains records to align with district goals. 

Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum of a Master’s degree.
  • Certification: Valid South Carolina educator certification in School Counseling, licensed Social Worker, or School Psychologist (Elementary or Secondary) Required
  • GCDF Required 
  • 5 Years Counselor Experience (With Middle School Preferred) 
  • Reporting: Reports directly to the Dean of Culture

Work Days: 212
Compensation: Paid on the Board Approved Instructional Salary Scale
